The new facility will support ADI to develop next-generation signal processing innovations aimed at accelerating the Digital transformation of industry, automotive, healthcare and other industries. It is expected that this will double ADI‘s European wafer production capacity and meet the company‘s goal of doubling its internal manufacturing capacity to enhance the resilience of its global supply chain and better meet customer demand. This investment is expected to increase ADI‘s employment footprint in the central western region of Ireland by 600 new positions, which is a significant increase from ADI‘s current 1500 employees in Ireland and 3100 employees throughout Europe.
Today‘s announcement comes one year after ADI announced a separate investment of 100 million euros in ADI Catalyst, its 100000 square foot customized facility located in the Limerick Park for innovation and collaboration. Ireland is also the location of ADI‘s main European research and development center, which has obtained over 1000 patents since its establishment and has established ADI research and development bases in various European regions such as Spain, Italy, the UK, Romania, and Germany.http://www.ic-bom.com/
"Ireland has been an important innovation center of ADI since 1976, thanks to its strong academic and research organizations, business ecosystem and progressive government leadership," said Vincent Roche, chief executive officer and chairman of ADI. This next-generation semiconductor manufacturing factory and expanded R&D team will further expand ADI Limerick‘s global influence. Through organic R&D and close collaboration with our customers and ecosystem partners, we are working to address some of the world‘s biggest challenges and achieve a more efficient, safe, and sustainable future
This new investment plan is part of the cooperation initiative of the European Union‘s Important Project for Common Interest in Microelectronics and Communication Technology (IPCEI ME/CT) and will support cross-border collaborative research. ADI‘s IPCEI application - Ireland‘s first since the launch of the European Common Interest Initiative (IPCEI) - requires final approval from the European Commission and support from the Irish government through IDA Ireland.
This investment also means providing a large amount of derivative work and contracts for local small and medium-sized enterprises and Irish owned enterprises. ADI‘s investment is part of Ireland‘s commitment to develop an important European project of common interest, IPCEI, and will contribute to the broader microelectronics industry in Europe. The future is digital. Without microchips, there wouldn‘t be such a future. It‘s great for Ireland to play such an important role in the supply chain.http://www.ic-bom.com/
Michael Lohan, CEO of IDA Ireland, stated: The technology that ADI will develop at this factory in Limerick is at the forefront of innovation and has the potential to completely change the lives of billions of people around the world. ADI‘s investment aims to strengthen the supply chain elasticity of our advanced semiconductor processes. We hope that ADI will continue to succeed and look forward to our continued cooperation. This is a transformational investment for the Limerick factory, the Midwest region, and the semiconductor industry in Ireland. IDA Ireland is committed to supporting investments in Scale investments that have had a positive impact on the semiconductor industry in Europe.
